Crash & Burn 10-Year Anniversary FAQ

In 2015/2016, I released some of my first ever electronic albums as the soundtracks to LGBTQIA+ webcomic, Crash & Burn. In 2026, I am celebrating by tweaking these songs for streaming, and releasing them across platforms!

What is crash and burn?

Crash and Burn is a narrative webcomic by artist Finn Lucullan and writer Kate Larking. It is about intergalactic politics, identity, superheroes, and sexy bird aliens.

Is the album art from the original comic?

No! The album art is all new, created by Lucullan Art.

This was a very fun opportunity for both of us to reflect on our older work, and reimagine it after a decade of experience.

What albums were released with the comic?

The first Crash & Burn album, Concord, was released in 2015.

The first Crash & Burn album, Amusements, was released in 2016.

They were both Bandcamp exclusives, designed to be listened to at the same time as the comic.

What are the differences between the initial albums and the current project?

The two initial albums were a collaboration between me and another local musician, Ariel Fiess. We each worked on songs individually, then put them together as albums and released them independently. My 2026 reimagining only includes the songs I wrote and produced myself - I am only licensed to distribute my own intellectual property, and I wanted to focus on remastering songs I already knew well, so it just made the most sense for this project.

If you would like to hear the initial albums in their entirety, they are available here.

Additionally, streaming platforms reward projects released in smaller chunks (singles, EPs) rather than longform albums. For this reason, I selected my 9 favourite songs (from my own catalogue), and reordered them into three 3-song EPs. These EPs are also grouped thematically rather than chronologically. This makes more sense for a series of standalone works (that help people discover the comic), instead of side-by-side works designed to be listened to at the same time as reading the comic.

The 3 EPs for this project will be:

Crash & Burn 10th Anniversary (Pt. 1):

  • ytilaitnetoP fo rorriM

  • Chokma Speaks

  • Reactivated

Planned release timeline: April 2026

The theme of this section is self-discovery. In the comic, each of these songs appeared alongside a character discovering a new ability, and I wanted to celebrate that feeling with the first mini-EP.

Crash & Burn 10th Anniversary (Pt. 2)

  • Ticket Farming

  • LVL 1. VR Fight Theme

  • HONK (Swan Boat Theme)

Planned release timeline: May 2026

The theme of this section is video game music! If these songs do not remind you of Pokemon, early Wii games, or Untitled Goose Game, I will eat my hat.

Crash & Burn 10th Anniversary (Pt. 3)

  • Almighty (Netza's Theme)

  • UNoE (United Nations of Earth)

  • Overture

Planned release timeline: June 2026

As an ironic twist, I wanted the final EP to be about introductions. Each of these songs appeared alongside a new character or force arriving in the world of the comic.

Was AI used for this?

AI was not used during the mastering process or album art creation. However, I am using an entirely digital music suite (consisting mostly of plugins by iZotope, Fabfilter, Loudness Meter, and Apple), so it is very likely that AI is used at least somewhat to create the tools I use.

Why are you doing this?

I wanted to re-release some of my favourite songs from this project for streaming for a variety of reasons:

  • I am still working on developing my home studio mastering abilities, and felt that remastering some of my older work would be a fun challenge (and let me practice just the part of the process I most need to work on).

  • Promoting the comic! It’s great, I’m still a huge fan, and with all the 2016 nostalgia online this year I thought it would be a fun way to help people rediscover this iconic story.

  • Although the original albums are still available on Bandcamp, I did not manage the account and do not currently have access to it. I wanted to ensure I have control over the songs I created, ensuring they do not get deleted.

How can I support this project?

Consider following me on Bandcamp, or your favourite streaming platform. My new band, ILLEGAL INPUT, has lots of exciting things on the horizon that you won’t want to miss!
