FIGHT TO THE DEATH
My latest project, FIGHT TO THE DEATH, is now available wherever music is sold!
Inspired by the dark forest theory of extraterrestrial life, this digital musical follows a dreamlike narrative about hope, betrayal, and aliens.
This project was funded by the Ontario Arts Council, and features the incredible talents of Bradley Hill (producer), Charles Xavier (guitarist on the title track), and Mariana Hutten (mastering engineer). Special thanks to Prajjwal Rajawat and Francesca Ludikar for creating the album art accompanying each song in this series! These songs were initially released sequentially as the narrative plot points unfolded gradually over social media, so it was especially important to have distinct artwork for each song.
Synopsis:
In this story, a lonely scientist sends out a signal to space, hoping to receive a response from an extraterrestrial life form (2. Take Me to the Stars). Tragically, her wish comes true as the signal is picked up by a parasitic alien, capable of directly interfacing with the mammalian brain, and bent on interplanetary devastation (3. Distress Call). As the creature arrives on Earth and begins infecting people, our scientist grows suspicious. Her concerns go unheeded as she attempts to warn others of the impending threat (4. Lizard Person). Classically villainous, the creature brags about its ability to psychologically dominate humans using hallucinogenic brainwashing techniques, and do so with incredible ease (5. Can’t Stop Me).
Not even our scientist is impervious to this threat, as she too becomes infected. In the penultimate movement (6. Fight To The Death), a battle for control takes place inside our protagonist’s own brain. She begins hallucinating that the creature is with her in her reflection, watching her every move from behind her own eyes. A physical and mental battle ensues, but at the end of the song, the winner is left intentionally ambiguous.
This question is soon answered in the final track (7. Out With A Bang), as the alien creature spreads its cordyceps-inspired spores all over the world. The creature infects everyone on Earth, and puppets humanity into its next stage of evolution: the version with the alien hive mind in control.
However, this is all up to interpretation.
